150 Years to erase everything.

I've had a realisation after watching a few episode of The Handmaid's Tale on Netflix.

And that is how fragile our social order is at the moment, more so than ever before, if a competent authoritarien governement took roots and power anywhere, 150 years would be all it takes for them to completely erase any traces of liberal (as in progressive) thoughts and teachings.

If the change is so dramatic on targeted populations, the first to go through would be so controlled that undertaking resistance would seem futile, if it remains, the risk is that the next generation over simply doesn't know anything about how things used to be, think of it like how english gets modified in 1984 and the generation the story takes part in simply doesn't know english any other way, and as such for them, so much as in their words, the thoughts of self and positive pleasure because entangled with rebelion and has a governement ordained negative side attributed to it.

i do not have the stomach to watch more of the handmaid's tale, as it touches on topics i don't do very well with, however, it has reinforced my will to keep fighting for what i believe in and for what is good, in a way, one of my primary occupation and activity contributes to this fight, i archive, save, and write, i make and record, i repair, so that those data, those recordings and writings, reach in the future, for people to know, to understand what was and what isn't.

i do wish however that we never get to such a terrible future that my archival becomes necessary to use as a reminder, no, despite my efforts, i wish in a way for them to be in vain, as, for them to be so would mean a comfortable future.

Remember kids, if you try to achieve immortality through digital means, the most you'll achieve is creating a copy of yourself.

Something that's been on my mind lately was the idea of digital immortality and how it would apply realistically.

I realised something, trying to do it this way would create a clone situation where the original person would meet with their silicon copy of themselves while they would still wither away and end up dying of the usual causes

In other words, immortality isn't really accurate, you would more so be passing on the flame of existance to a new being that believes it is you, but are they really ?

I personnally don't believe so, for the moment they would awake, their subjective experience of reality would differ from the original you, and their memory de-facto would form a separate continuity from yours, they would believe and feel like you, but in their own way, would be a completely separate person from the original being.

But who knows, maybe for some, this is enough, it is still a copy of all past experiences and as such would be close enough that some may be satisfied with the result non-the-less, still a very interesting topic to think about, isn't it. :]
